Contrary to popular assumptions, Capstone Dungeons in Diablo 4 support co-op, effectively allowing their friends to carry them if they want to skip a world level or two. The open world in Diablo 4 is very different from the randomly generated maps of past Diablo games, because the shape of the wilderness is not only fixed and predetermined paths, but it dynamically connects Diablo 4 players of the same world level To provide a persistent and diverse online experience. While the events spawning in many of Sanctuary's areas are still random, the classic Diablo area design is preserved for its dungeons.
Dungeons in Diablo 4 typify its gameplay. Diablo 4's Codex of Power's legendary traits are earned by completing certain dungeons, and so far the end game has revolved around challenging Nightmare dungeons for better loot, and dealing with emerging hell tides in the open world. To unlock these features, players must first prove themselves by completing the campaign on either difficulty (Normal or Veteran) and the Capstone Dungeon on the highest difficulty available.
With that in mind, many players expected Capstone Dungeons to be a single-player experience, to prevent the undeserving from unlocking higher world tiers before they're ready. According to associate game director Joseph Piepiora on Twitter, that doesn't appear to be the case - players will be able to play Capstone Dungeons with their friends regardless of their level. Reactions to Piepiora's announcement were mixed, as some fans felt that the seemingly difficult Capstone Dungeons in Diablo 4's closed beta served a logical purpose in individual player progression.
The developers of Diablo 4 may decide to offer cooperative Capstone Dungeons for players who primarily progress together, or try to catch up with their friends on higher world tiers. This is a decision that doesn't affect the endgame experience at all, as players still have to tackle difficult content to get better loot. Additionally, the practice of carrying around at lower levels has always been a cultural cornerstone of the Diablo community, and it's finally healthier for the game to offer players this choice in Diablo 4 as well. And for players, it is also a good idea to buy diablo 4 items and gold for characters leveling.
It's clear that Blizzard Entertainment is confident that Diablo 4 will be a huge success, as the company is doing whatever it takes to market its flagship game ahead of its June 6 release date. Despite some misgivings about the microtransaction system in Diablo 4, the gameplay itself is solid for most classes, and the story evokes an atmosphere that truly recalls Diablo's dark roots . While its events will keep players entertained for a month or two, the quality of its online experience will ultimately determine the game's long-term success.
Diablo 4 launches June 6 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
